Ateneo Human Rights Center (AHRC) staff and interns attended the Rule of Law Forum held on November 14, 2025, at the University of the Philippines Professional Schools Auditorium in Bonifacio Global City.

AHRC Executive Director Atty. Nicolene Arcaina served as one of the panel discussants in the plenary session “Enduring Challenges to the Protection of Civil Liberties,” alongside former Supreme Court Spokesperson Atty. Theodore Te.

A highlight of the forum was the keynote and plenary session featuring international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney. Moderated by Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Rappler CEO Maria Ressa, the conversation underscored the work of the Clooney Foundation for Justice, particularly its efforts to provide legal aid to victims of human rights violations, including journalists.

Clooney noted that her organization has been exploring partnerships with law schools in the Philippines, including the Ateneo Law School. Currently, Ateneo law students and AHRC interns are participating in a trial monitoring initiative conducted in partnership with Columbia University Human Rights Institute and supported by the Clooney Foundation for Justice.

Following the session, the AHRC delegation also had the opportunity to meet and speak with Amal Clooney.
